Our Story

Autumn and Drew met in the summer of 2022 in Denver while Drew was visiting from Cleveland for a friend’s wedding. Drew had extended his trip an extra day so that he could attend a gumbo party that his college roommate and wife were hosting the following night. The wife happened to be one of Autumn’s best college friends, and being the lover of all things food that she is, Autumn was not going to turn down an invite for homemade gumbo. At the end of the party, after having nearly zero direct interaction all evening, Drew and Autumn spent a few minutes talking during the cleanup efforts. And that was apparently all it took. The next day when Drew arrived back in Cleveland, he realized he couldn’t stop thinking about the girl from the gumbo party and decided to do something about it. He got her number from his friends, and they began talking and texting right away.
Starting a long-distance relationship was a little weird but it ensured that these two spent plenty of time talking and getting to know one another. It also meant that their first official date was five weeks later and came in the form of a “vacation date”. Autumn and Drew spent several days at a ranch in Texas, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, and admiring the cows (one of Autumn’s favorite animals). Things went smoothly enough that the trip ended in a first kiss and feeling that this could be something very real for the both of them. Over the next 8 months, Drew and Autumn took turns visiting each other, going on trips together, and truly getting to know and appreciate one another. After almost exactly a year of doing long distance, they decided enough was enough and found a place in Denver to move into together.
Since moving in together, Drew and Autumn have been fortunate enough to combine their love of travel with their love of food which has taken them to several places around the world from Patagonia and Argentina to Mexico City, to Europe for the Summer Olympics, and all the places in between. But also, since moving in together, Drew’s love of fly fishing rubbed off on Autumn. So, in June 2024 when Drew suggested spending a weekend in the mountains fishing, Autumn was completely in!
The day that Drew proposed began with a book club brunch for Autumn. The brunch ran long, and Drew waited patiently at home for her return...or so she thought. Drew was at home expertly and covertly packing the car with fishing supplies, and celebration supplies. Once Autumn returned home, they hit the road and went straight to the river. They stopped in a town called Minturn for a popular fishing spot number one. There they realized that the fishing conditions were less than ideal, so Drew called an audible. They packed up the car and drove for another 20-30 minutes to a more remote spot. They were now out of cell service, just them two.
They found a peaceful spot on Homestake Creek and Drew got Autumn setup. Autumn thought Drew was going into fly fishing guide mode by monitoring and critiquing her technique which made her nervous and very focused on catching her first trout! After some time and multiple attempts, Drew was able to get Autumn’s attention by carefully orchestrating a spill of his supplies. Making it seem like he was picking up his stuff, Drew dropped to a knee and caught Autumn completely off guard by pulling out a ring!
Once the shock of what was happening registered, Autumn said “yes!” and they could not have asked for a more beautiful setting to begin forever with each other. (And even more fortunately, Drew did not drop the ring in the river!)
